New for 2005, SuperTrapp has 2:1 SuperMegs (above) and Staggered Mean
Mothers Drag Pipes (below) available for Sportsters.
To know SuperTrapp is to love SuperTrapp. And you’ll love what they’ve
been doing for 2005. For the uninitiated, here’s a perfect time to get
to know a company that takes performance seriously.
What Makes a SuperTrapp a SuperTrapp?
What makes a SuperTrapp system so special? The main reason so many
riders swear by SuperTrapp is the tuneable disc technology created
by inventor Paul Moller in 1971.
Using SuperTrapp’s tuneable discs, riders can add more or
less discs to customize their exhaust to the current riding environment.
If a rider is looking for more horsepower, they can add more discs
to increase the exhaust outlet and decrease back pressure. This widens
the powerband at the top end. It also increases exhaust tone and
leans out carburetion. Conversely, other riders will want to remove
discs to decrease the exhaust opening and increase backpressure.
This effectively decreases the powerband to create more low-end
torque and decreases exhaust tone while enriching carburetion.
Of course, how a customer tunes his or her SuperTrapp is up to them,
but each product comes with instructions that recommend a number of
discs for each application. Adding and removing discs is a simple and
quick process and a SuperTrapp customer service rep is always available
to answer any questions. 2005: The Latest and Greatest From SuperTrapp and Kerker
For the first time ever, SuperTrapp has 2:1 SuperMegs and Staggered
Mean Mother Drag Pipes available for Sportsters. SuperTrapp also
launched a new product in their Kerker line of exhausts- the Kerker
Double Espresso Pipes, featuring the new Power Core baffles.
Proving that performance and eye-catching good looks can come in the
same package, SuperTrapp, in partnership with Paul Yaffe, will be releasing
the latest entry into the Road Legends Series, Phantom Pipes. In addition,
the popular and stylish X Pipes feature a new set of accessories.
Also this year, SuperTrapp has re-launched their website to help showcase
all of the new products. So sit back, relax and hold on tight as you
read on to see how SuperTrapp is making 2005 one wild ride. 2:1 SuperMegs
SuperTrapp always listens to its riders, which is why they have decided
to make their SuperTrapp 2:1 SuperMegs and Kerker 2:1 SuperMegs available
for 2004 and 2005 Sportsters. These systems have been tested where
it matters most: in dyno shootouts and on the racetrack. SuperMegs
have proven to be great performing exhausts for American V-Twins,
adding up to 17 horsepower over the stock system.
SuperTrapp’s 2:1 SuperMegs (Part No. 828-71200, MSRP $595)
feature tuneable disc technology, which allows the rider to adjust
the power band and sound levels by adding or removing the 4-inch
discs. Power gain is also aided by the 2.5-inch collector that
allows for maximum flow for even the largest big bore motors.
The Kerker 2:1 SuperMegs (Part No. 128-71200, MSRP $530) run straight
through for a deep throaty sound and excellent top end performance.
In addition to power and sound, both sets of 2:1 SuperMegs deliver
in the style department and feature triple chrome-plated quality, a
distinctive polished billet end cap and heatshields in a unique three-piece
design for full coverage of front and rear headpipes and collector.
Mean Mothers
Sportster owners have another new option this year in the staggered
Mean Mother Drag Pipes (Part No. 138-72200, MSRP $574). Now available
for the 2004 and 2005 editions of the Harley Davidson Sportster,
Mean Mothers offer distinctive looks and sound quality with a stepped-header
design. In addition, these pipes pack quite a punch, providing up
to 12 percent added horsepower.
The chrome-plated 2.5-inch outer pipes have 1.75-inch stainless steel
inner pipes that step up to 2.25-inches for outstanding performance
results. Unlike other drag pipes on the market, the stacked 2.5-inch
pipes mount diagonally to the frame, giving the Mean Mothers a distinctive
offset look.
The Sportster version features pre-installed baffles and rolled-edge
stock end caps with two optional designs, slash cut and turned down,
that rotate up to 90 degrees to create a variety of looks. Mean Mothers
are a breeze to install because the heatshields are preinstalled at
the factory. They also can be field-replaced in case your bike encounters
a sudden change in gravity.

The Double Espresso slip ons are the latest addition to the Kerker
line-up. Now available for Harley-Davidson FLH/FLT touring bikes,
the pipes come stock with Java Jugs end caps and new Power Core baffles.
Kerker Double Espresso
If the tuneability of a SuperTrapp doesn’t fit your tastes,
there is always the legendary performance and signature sound quality
of Kerker pipes. The latest addition to the line, the Double Espresso
slip ons (Part No. 128-78001, MSRP $408), is now available for Harley-Davidson
FLH/FLT touring bikes. The pipes come with a new look, new Power
Core baffles and stock rolled-edge Java Jugs end caps.
The Power Core is a welcome edition to the Kerker line. It allows
the Double Espresso pipes to produce the signature Kerker sound quality
and higher performance gains but without increasing dB levels, a
critical feature in today’s sound-conscious society.
The Double Espresso pipes are the first Kerker product to come stock
with end caps. The shortened Java Jugs end caps put the tip even
with the bags, eliminating the threat of damage when backing to a curb.
The new Java Jugs end caps are also available separately to add this
distinctive new look to all of the Kerker slip ons. Tapered, turndown
or fishtail end cap designs are also available.
Phantom Pipes
The custom bike market is hotter than ever and while not everyone
can afford a totally custom bike, SuperTrapp and master custom
bike builder Paul Yaffe can help add a custom touch to the exhaust.
Yaffe’s
Road Legends series has already turned heads with its initial two
designs, X Pipes and Crack Pipes. This year’s new design,
Phantom Pipes, may be the most stunning entry into the series yet.
The curvy 2:1 drag pipe is based on Yaffe’s fire-breathing
exhaust from his Discovery Channel Biker Build-off Phantom Bike.
The new system features a silver ceramic or black ceramic finish
with 4-piece stylized chrome heatshields.
The pipe has been on display as part of the Yaffe-built “SuperTrapp
Super Bike” at various bike shows and has been a topic of conversation
among the dealers who have caught a glimpse of it. The Phantom Pipe
is now available with a MSRP of $795.

X-Pipes are one of Paul Yaffe's innovative Road Legends Series designs,
offering a great custom look at a reasonable price. New this year,
solid heatshields and ridged chrome billet end caps are available
as design options.
X Pipe Accessories
Since their release, Paul Yaffe-designed X Pipes have proven to be
one of the most popular products offered by SuperTrapp because they
give the bike a custom look for a not-so-custom price. This year,
SuperTrapp will up the ante once again for riders seeking to add
that little something extra to the already stylish X Pipes. The dramatic
over-and-under shotgun style drag pipes are now available with solid
heatshields and a ridged chrome billet end cap as design options.
The solid heatshields MSRP for $256.02 per set, and the ridged end
caps MSRP for $98.52 per pair.
The 2-inch straight through chrome X Pipes are designed to fit Softail
models and most Softail customs. X Pipes are also available in black
ceramic and brushed silver ceramic finish with drilled chrome billet
heatshields and a matching set of drilled chrome billet end caps. SuperTrapp’s
Online Revolution
SuperTrapp has always welcomed the chance to interact directly with
dealers and consumers. This year SuperTrapp will be taking that interaction
to whole new level thanks to a re-designed website and new E-newsletter.
In February of this year, SuperTrapp re-launched its website at www.supertrapp.com
with a new look and added features for both dealers and riders. The
new site features improved access to information about performance
exhausts, racing, industry news and more.
The site now organizes information by application, improving navigation
and simplifying product selection. The product section now features
background information and detailed illustrations for each product.
And due to popular demand, the new site offers sound files, dyno charts
and instruction sheets available for download.
Testimonials from both experts and riders are scattered throughout
the site to share a variety of perspectives on the performance of
SuperTrapp exhaust. Racers like AMA flat track rider Bryan Bigelow
offer up their views on SuperTrapp’s product.
“We try all the competitive exhaust products,” Bigelow said. “If
there is a better one we’ll use it. But, it’s pretty obvious
when you go out to the track and see everyone is using SuperTrapp. There
must be a reason for that. That’s how racers are. If it’s
a better product, we’re going to use it.”
Another brand new feature of the site is a “Find My Exhaust” section,
which helps site browsers quickly find exhaust systems that fit their
specific make and model of motorcycle or ATV.
In addition to the new website, SuperTrapp wants to stay in touch
with you personally through its new E-newsletter, Pipeline. SuperTrapp
will deliver the news you care about right to your e-mail inbox.
Simply log on to www.supertrapp.com and click on the “Newsletter Signup” button.
Each issue features five sections: Product Spotlight, The Race Track,
In Werner’s Words, According to our Riders and We Dare You
to Try. A link will also be included in the newsletter so that you
can send feedback directly to SuperTrapp to let them know what you
think.
The ‘Product Spotlight’ section will give you the lowdown
on the newest SuperTrapp products. ‘The Race Track’ will
keep you up to date on the flat track racing scene. It gives you
the latest results as well as a racer profile in every issue.
Recently, SuperTrapp called on the expertise of retired Harley wrench
Bill Werner. Werner is hard at work helping to design exhausts that
will turn the flat track racing world on its head. ‘In Werner’s
Words’ will get you inside the mind of the man who won an astounding
13 AMA Mechanic of the Year titles.
‘According to Our Riders’ will feature tips, testimonials,
quotes and pictures straight from riders and dealers like you. And, finally, ‘We
Dare You to Try’ is SuperTrapp’s challenge to you. SuperTrapp
will come up with a tough trivia question and it’s up to you
to send in an answer. This section also will feature survey results
from previous issues that allow you to see what other bikers are thinking.
Don’t be left out of the loop! 2005 has already been a big year
for SuperTrapp, so make sure you are up to date. Visit www.supertrapp.com and click on the newsletter link to sign up and be the first to hear
the latest from SuperTrapp.
