The newest addition to the Carriage Works line-up…the Avenger.

Carriage Works new Thrasher wheel comes tubeless and ready to bolt on, as do all other Carriage Works wheels.

The new Tazor wheel from Carriage Works is, like all Carriage Works wheels, forged from solid billet, instead of being cast in a mold.

o question, wheels can make the bike. Okay, pipes and seats are usually the first changes made to a factory Harley, but it’s new wheels that really make the difference. There’s not much else delivering as much bolt-on impact as a set of custom wheels, and Carriage Works, with its full lineup of one-piece “Rotary Forged” wheels, has some beauties. More of them now than ever, too, with the 2005 introduction of three new styles, the Avenger just released after the Cincinnati Show, the Tazor and the Thrasher. Take a good look at these three. Imagine them on a bike. Talk about instant impact!
Carriage Works wheels have more than just good looks going for them, too. Curt Cunningham’s company, established in 1981, uses nothing but state-of-the-art technology to manufacture these forged, one-piece motorcycle wheels. Carriage Works even pioneered and developed the process of “Rotary Profile Forging,” a manufacturing technique that delivers the ultimate combination of style, strength and light weight. In fact, Carriage Works makes the only one-piece Rotary Profile Forged wheel in the industry, and the benefits run deep. Unlike conventional cast-aluminum wheels with their gas pockets and pores that can weaken them, or spun-aluminum wheels made from flat-rolled linear grain aluminum stock, the Carriage Works Rotary Profile Forged wheels are die-formed under 10 million pounds of hammered compression. The pre-formed and pre-heated aluminum blanks are forced into an ultra-strong radial grain that follows the design and contour of the wheel. There are absolutely no weak spots anywhere. Makes you look at those Carriage Works wheels in a new light, doesn’t it?
And there’s plenty to look at. Those three new styles, the Avenger with its clever combination of chevron spokes and a stylized hub, the almost-tribal Tazor and the see-through clarity of the Thrasher join the existing Carriage Works lineup that includes the Spider, Viking, Hurricane, Riptide, 5-Spoke, Eclipse, Neptune, Olympic, Cyclone and the Solid. Most all of those wheel styles are offered with matching pulleys, rotors, air cleaners, derby and point covers, too (the new Avenger is available with just matching pulleys and rotors). All those wheels are offered in all the sizes, as well. There are 16 x 3.25s, 18 x 3.25s, 18 x 4.0s, 18 x 5.50s, 18 x 8.50s, big 18 x 10.50s in either left- or right-side-drive for those giant rear tires, there are skinny 19 x 2.15s and 21 x 2.15s, and there’s a 21 x 3.50. With all of those styles and sizes there’s a Carriage Works wheel for every bike and every taste. Drag Specialties has them all, too, along with lots of other coordinated Carriage Works bits like billet aluminum floorboards, brake covers, pedal pads, foot pegs, shifter pegs and even a license plate mount. That’s all in the FatBook, too. Wheels make the bike, and Carriage Works has them all. Check them out.
