Avon’s Venoms are an excellent choice for touring and cruiser tires. Available in every size and style, these premium tires offer lightweight, smooth performance and exceptional handling.

The Avon Azaro AV45/AV46-STs are available in 18 different sizes to suit any need, from sport-touring to street riding and even track days.

ustoms and cruisers might grab the limelight, but don’t let all that chrome and flashy paint blind you. There’s a whole other segment of V-twin riders. There are plenty of Harley guys interested in pure performance, for instance, not to mention all those riders on Buells and, increasingly, the V-Rods. For these riders the tires have to be more than just big. They have to perform. They have to handle, they have to have a great ride, they have to grip in all conditions and all lean angles, and when it comes to sport touring they have to last. There’s one brand of tires that stands out here, delivering on all that and more. Avon.
The most important connection any motorcycle makes is its connection to the road, and with Avon there’s no compromise. The Avon Venoms, Venom-Rs and Azaros are serious tires for serious riders. Start with the Azaros, the AV45/AV46-STs. They’re available in 18 different sizes to fill every demand, and they’ll do everything from high-mileage sport-touring, to super-street riding, to even taking on a little track-day action should the need arise. Of course, for real track-day duty there’s the Azaro AV49/50-SP ProSeries tires, super-sticky radials that are still D.O.T approved. But it’s those AV45s and AV46s, tires covering the whole sport touring market and more, that’ll be most popular. These are the tires chosen by Todd Colbert and his Team X-treem stunt riders, the tires they put on their Buells. One reason is that the Azaros have Avon’s Advanced Variable Belt Density (A-VBD) construction working for them. This is a system of closely wound Aramid fibers in the center tread for straight-up stability with fibers spaced wider at the shoulders for a compliant contact patch at high lean angles. The Azaro rear uses Avon’s SBC (Spiral Belted Carcass), too, with ultra-strong belts to deal with rapid acceleration and braking. And the Azaro tread patterns grip in all conditions. They shoot the water out from under the tires in the wet, and with a TA (Tri-Arc) profile there’s a great balance of handling and stability, wet or dry. Combine all that with wonderful wear characteristics and you have a sporting tire that’s tough to beat. Buell riders, especially, will love it.
Don’t forget about the Avon Venom-R radials, either. This is the perfect performance tire for that perfect performance Harley, the V-Rod. The V-Rod, of course, is the first-ever factory Harley to use radial tires, and Avon has the upgrade replacements in the Venom-R radials. They’re available in the OE V-Rod sizes–a 120/70ZR19 front and a 180/55ZR18 rear, and recently introduced there is a real upgrade for that V-Rod rear, a Venom-R 200/55ZR18. Backing up those Venom-Rs there’s a wide range of sizes and applications available with the standard Venoms, too, all great upgrade sport-tires. When it comes to mileage and handling Venoms are outstanding. They deliver a quiet ride, their carcass has an exceptionally low rolling resistance and, with a multi-arc tire profile a Venom gives any bike a light, nimble, sporty feel, even a cruiser. And the grip is tenacious. Venoms feature deep tread depths, high load ratings, and they look good. There are even whitewalls.
Those foot-wide tires might make the headlines, but it’s great handling tires that make the motorcycle, and Avon has them. The Venoms, Venom-Rs and Azaros are performance tires for performance Harleys, and they’re all available through Drag Specialties. Call your rep today for more information.
