Deltran’s new state-of-the-art Battery Tender/ Midtronics Battery Tester is a simple to use tool that gives you an immediate digital readout telling you whether the battery just needs a re-charge, or if it’s time for a replacement.

otorcycle batteries have changed. These days most bikes come with modern Absorbed Glass Matte (AGM) batteries as OE. Replacing the old-style flooded-cell batteries, AGMs are a definite upgrade. They’re generally more powerful, they’re sealed so there are no spills or drips and they last longer. They’re also more expensive. Time was, you’d plan on getting a season out of a battery and then replace it. At $20 or so for one of those old flooded batteries that was an easy decision. But do you really want to replace a $100-plus AGM battery when there might be nothing wrong with it, and all it needs is a re-charge?
Deltran’s brand-new Battery Tester, developed in conjunction with the electronics giant Midtronics and debuted at the Indy Dealer Expo, will give you the answer. This hand-held Battery Tester (it measures just 7.5-in. x 3.75-in. x 1.5-in.) quickly, easily–and most important-accurately evaluates all the motorcycle and powersport batteries you’ll see. Flooded-cell or AGM, you’ll get an instant readout on that battery’s condition. You’ll know for sure when a battery is fully charged and good to go, when it’s in fine shape and requires only a re-charge, when it’s marginal and you’ll probably want to start thinking about a replacement and when it’s shot, a terminal case, no pun intended.
You get that answer in seconds, too. Just connect the tester’s leads to the battery–in the bike or out, it doesn’t matter–then punch in a two-digit code identifying the battery being tested. Those codes are all in the instruction manual, and 24 of the most popular are listed right on the tester’s back panel. Press the “Test” button and you’re done. In seconds you’ll know the true condition of the battery you’re working with. The Deltran Battery Tester will determine the battery’s chemistry, whether it’s a flooded-cell design or an AGM (which isn’t always an easy call because some sealed AGMs have caps on top that can fool you) then tell you the battery’s condition. You’ll get accurate test results on discharged batteries, too; there’s no need to charge a battery before testing.
The Deltran Battery Tester can tell you more than just battery condition, too. Just as easily–and with the same hook-up–you can test a motorcycle’s charging and starting systems. Press the “V” button, bring the revs up, and you’ll get an instant readout on that machine’s charging system. Shut the motorcycle off and take a baseline voltage reading, then hit the starter and you’ll know exactly how much that system is drawing. One tool, one hook-up, three important tests done in seconds. Best of all, anyone can use this tool and correctly interrupt the test results.
Deltran and Midtronics made sure all the bases were covered. Unlike other battery testers available, load-testers for instance, this one works on any battery any time. You’ll get answers proven to be 98-percent correct, too. No guessing. Add in the tool’s charging- and starting-test capability and the Deltran Battery Tester looks even better. And the price, $169.95–lots lower than some of the other testers available that don’t offer as much–cinches the deal. Parts Unlimited has them in stock now, so call your rep today.
