Here’s the rule of thumb: If you’re selling someone his second set of tires it’s time to change the shocks. By that point the motorcycle will have somewhere in neighborhood of 20,000 miles on it, and at that mileage the OE shocks are worn out. It’s time to replace them, and Progressive Suspension has everything you need for all the applications. Progressive’s shocks, specifically the 412 Series, the 418 Series (especially suited to the Honda VTX and the explosion in hop-ups going on there), the 440 Series and the 420 Series (now available for the Vulcan 2000 and the Yamaha Royal Star, by the way) are all more than just replacements. They’re definite upgrades from OE. They’re made with high-quality materials inside and out, and depending on the model and application they’ll offer the advantages of gas-charged / multi-stage / velocity-sensitive damping and in some instances that damping is even externally adjustable. These shocks are priced right, too. Progressive Suspension is an easy sell, and now’s the time for it. Don’t forget the front of the bike, either. If you’re updating the suspension at one end it only makes sense to do the same at the other end while you’re at it. Once again, Progressive Suspension has what you need. There’s a whole array of fork springs available, progressively wound for a smooth ride at cruising speeds with increased resistance to bottoming as the spring compresses. Parts Unlimited has all of this in stock. Make sure you do, too. The riding season’s right around the corner. |
