The Gripsters are a great choice for dual-sport. The tread design on these tires is perfect on a bike that’ll be road-ridden all week long, but come the weekend, heads for the nearest trail or fire road. The Gripster’s computer-optimized arrowheaded tread pattern does it all, and it works really well on mid-range trail bikes. Gripsters are a good pick for older bikes, too, like those BMW GS models, and they’re equally at home on new stuff like the DRZs, KLRs, and XR-Ls. These are grippy, long-lasting do-it-all tires and they’re available in a variety of tubeless and tube-type fitments with ‘S’ (112 mph) and ‘T’ (118 mph) speed ratings. Gripster AM24 fronts are sized 90/90T21, the Gripster AM24 rears are available in 130/80T17, 110/80S18 and 120/80S18 sizes. Avon’s Distanzias, the AM43 and AM44, are the tires to put on those large capacity dual-sport bikes, like the BMW R1150GS, the Triumph Tiger and Suzuki V-Strom. Distanzias aren’t limited to just that role, though; they’re work just as well on smaller machines like the BMW F650 and Kawasaki KLR650. Avon’s developed a rugged tread pattern here and a rubber compound that blends great wet and dry road holding with long life characteristics. The Distanzia is a stable cruiser, too. It’s available with ‘S’ (112 mph), ‘T’ (118 mph) and ‘H’ (130 mph) speed ratings, and there’s a ‘V’ rated version for the late-model Triumph Tiger. There are plenty of sizes available, everything from a 100/90H19 to a 90/90T21 for the front and for the rear the size range goes from a 130/80T17 to a 120/80S18. There are radials in the mix, as well. The Distanzia Supermotos and Supermoto Pro-Xtreme Rains take all that to the next level. These DOT street-legal Avons were developed specifically for Supermoto. They feature a lighter weight construction and a softer compound. The Pro-Xtreme Rains are direct descendants of Avon’s race only tires, so they’re nimble in corners, stable on the straights and their road holding in the dry and the wet is world class. Distanzia Supermotos deliver great traction, and even with that softer rubber compound the mileage is excellent. Distanzia Supermotos are offered in a 120/70HR17 radial front and 150/60HR17 and 160/60HR17 radial rears. The Pro-Xtreme Rains are sized 120/70HR17 for the radial front and 160/60HR17 for the radial rear. “Sport” comes in many forms, and Avon has tires for all of them. Parts Unlimited has these Avons in stock, in all the sizes you’ll need. Thinking dual-sport and Supermoto? Start thinking Avon. |
