iseco’s been in the piston business since way back in 1941. That alone should tell you something. Every piston Wiseco makes is forged aluminum, and more than that, every one of those ultra-strong forged pistons is produced on Wiseco-built and Wiseco-designed dedicated tooling. No surprise there; Wiseco is the only aftermarket piston manufacturer in the country with its own tool-and-die equipment, all of it engineered and built right inside their own building. With all this, you can bet Wiseco has the Harley-Davidson market covered.
Take a look in the FatBook. There are Wiseco forged-aluminum pistons in there with applications going clear back to 1948, and right up to the latest-model Twin Cams. They’re available as stock replacements, in over-bore sizes for rebuilds and there are high performance big-bore conversion kits. Every one of those pistons is a decided upgrade from the part it replaces. Forged pistons are just better than cast parts, for a lot of reasons. The advantage to a forged piston begins with the basic forging process, which produces what’s known as a directional alignment of the molecules of the metal itself. This forged “grain flow” results in an exceedingly high degree of strength, increased ductility and a marked improvement in a piston’s resistance to impact and fatigue. All this adds up to a long piston life and a piston that retains its critical dimensions throughout that life.
And there’s more. Every Wiseco forged replacement piston is designed to install without requiring any engine re-balancing. That’s a big point, especially with late-model Harley crankpins and flywheels that are pressed together at the factory, making disassembly for re-balancing a virtually impossible job. Given all that, choosing a replacement piston is easy. A forged piston wins every time, hands down. And Wiseco has them all, in all the OE bore sizes and all the rebuilding overbore sizes, .005-over to .080-over depending on the application. Every piston set is complete, too. Rings, wrist pins and wrist-pin clips are included.
Look to Wiseco for those big-bore kits, too. They’re incredibly popular these days and Wiseco has them all. There are big-bore kits for Twin Cams, turning them into powerhouse 95-inchers, and don’t forget about that Sportster 883 package. Wiseco’s kit transforms that entry-level XL into a rip-snorting 1200. Even though the pistons are a whopping 1/2-inch larger in diameter than the 883 pistons they replace, these big-bore pistons are not only stronger with all the performance benefits of a forged piston, their weight is virtually identical to the stock part. The big-bore pistons are offered in a few different compression ratios, too, a choice of 9:1 or 10.5:1 for both the Twin Cam 95 and Sportster 883-to-1200 conversion. The kits are complete with rings, pins, clips and instructions, and they all install with no re-balancing required.
Wiseco has the Harley-Davidson market covered, and has for decades. More than that, it’s covered with forged performance pistons and quality pieces with a history dating back to 1941. It’s all in the FatBook.
