Dunlop’s new 250/40R18 tire has a great custom look, with the performance to back it up.

n today’s world big tires reign. There’s no question about the overwhelming popularity of huge, wide rear tires. You know it, and custom builders coast-to-coast know it, too. If you’re building a bike to stand out and get noticed – and sell – it better have huge meat out back, simple as that. Trouble is, too often function gets lost in the quest for form. This big and wide Dunlop, the just-released 250/40R18, changes all that. This is a big, wide tire designed to do more than just look good; this one’s designed to perform, and not just on the show circuit.
Coming from Dunlop, that should be no surprise. Dunlop, after all, is the OE tire supplier to Harley-Davidson, and has been for years. Dunlop knows what it takes when it comes to Harley tires. Looks count, sure, but at Dunlop so does everything else, things like handling, strength, rideability, durability and all-over stability, both straight-up and leaned over. And all that’s right here in the new 250/40R18. Dunlop’s big tire might not be the first in the market, but this one was worth the wait. Custom builders getting their first look at this tire, guys like Jesse Rooke who just used the big Dunlop on his Discovery Channel bike, couldn’t agree more.
While the 250/40R18 is a full-width tire, built to that ultimate custom look, it’s got Dunlop’s proven radial-tire technology at its core. A strong two-ply casing specifically designed for the 250 delivers a level of handling unexpected in a big tire. And talk about delivering, that specially engineered carcass, combined with a computer-aided overall profile, was designed to provide great straight-line stability, and the 250/40R18 delivers that same outstanding stability when it’s leaned over through the corners. This big Dunlop’s tread pattern, in addition to looking the part, was designed to provide a class-leading level of wet-pavement performance, too. There’s real traction here, wet weather or dry, and that translates into confident cornering. That tread pattern is complemented with an exceptionally clean sidewall, too. Dunlop hasn’t missed a trick. And, just like all other Dunlop Harley tires, the 250/40R18 was engineered in the USA and it’s built in the USA, especially for America’s custom bikers.
The Dunlop 250/40R18 is available right now. Drag Specialties has it in stock. When it comes to custom-bike tires size does matter, but at Dunlop so do a few other things, things like ride, handling, durability, cornering and wet-weather performance. All that’s here in 250/40R18. That, and of course size. This one was worth the wait.
