his year Sturgis got a Drag Specialties one/two punch, and the winner was every Drag Specialties dealer. Sturgis was the debut of the second Drag Specialties Event Truck, a doubled-up effort to showcase what’s in the FatBook. In both locations, with the original rig and the brand-new one set up across town, the “business” was drumming up business for you. And next year, with two big event trucks in the fleet now, Drag Specialties will double-up the coverage everywhere.
First of all, that new truck, a big 13-speed Kenworth T2000 with a hot-rodded Cat 425 and pulling a huge 53-foot show trailer, will hit the road covering all the familiar events. It’ll be at Laconia, Daytona, New Orleans, the whole list. Meanwhile, the original truck and its crew will spread out over the country covering a whole host of AHDRA and AMA race events, flying the Drag Specialties flag everywhere it goes. More than just that, that second rig will carry plenty of tables, chairs and awnings and become a comfortable and welcoming hospitality suite for the local Drag Specialties dealers. Talk about a nice day at the races!
Like always, both trucks will arrive packed full with vendor kiosks displaying an assortment of what’s available in the FatBook, and of course in your store. Nothing’s for sale here, either. These Drag Specialties road teams aren’t competing with you for customers. Just the opposite. They’re staffed with about half a dozen company reps and local dealer reps, and quite often representatives from the vendor-companies themselves. They are there to display product, pass out brochures and information, answer questions, and–especially with those local reps on hand–direct interested customers to the nearest dealers in the area, local shops like yours who have what they’re looking for in stock and ready. And after stopping by either one of the trucks and talking with the knowledgeable Drag Specialties staff, customers will come into your dealership knowing exactly what they want. They’ll have all the information they need, right down to the Drag Specialties part number they got at the truck.
Of course all the current Drag Specialties project bikes will be on display, too, all brought along to whet riders’ appetites for what’s cool – and what they need. Many of the latest builds, bikes like the ones showcased in this very issue, will be on the new truck. The original truck, the one at the races, will have show bikes on hand as well, bikes more appropriate to the venue. The teams will carry seven show bikes on the new truck and six more on the original truck slated for the track. There will be dealer showcase events at those races, too. Drag Specialties will host hospitality dinners set up just for the dealers, with even more vendor reps on hand for real face-to-face contact between the manufacturer, the distributor and you, the dealer who actually gets to interact with the end user. A great day at the races will be a great day for business, too, all around.
So keep an eye open, at both the rallies and the races. Drag Specialties will be there, and with two big rigs they won’t be hard to spot. Stop in and say hello, and maybe say “Thanks,” too. These guys are out there working for you – and now they’re doubled up doing it, coast-to-coast. See you on the road!
