id you catch the X Games on TV this summer? Riders were flippin’, jumpin’ and skiddin’ at the Staples Center and Home Depot Center in Los Angeles and when it was over, riders in Thor gear brought home the majority of the Gold medals.
Jeremy McGrath showed the world what a versatile motorcyclist he is. First he won the Step Up competition and then bagged a Bronze medal in the Supermoto race. And everyone thought he was retired! We’ve been watching Nate Adams develop his skills for a couple of years and it was great to see him take the Gold there in the Freestyle competition. And how about Matt Buyten? He popped his shoulder out of the joint in the Step Up and just put it back in and matched MC jump for jump until finally coming up short on his final try. He’s one tough guy.
And when it comes to tough, Travis Pastrana is in a league of his own. Amazingly, even after breaking his ankle and wrist in his huge get-off there on Saturday night, he came back on Sunday to race in the Supermoto event, and later that same day was doing backflips in the Freestyle finals against Nate Adams and the other finalists. He wasn’t 100%, so he didn’t do all of the tricks he had in his bag, but he still managed a runner-up performance to Nate.
To top things off, Ben Bostrom took home the gold in the premier Supermoto race runnin’ a very cool THOR Core jersey over his leathers!
What a lot of people don’t know was that instead of flying home after the X Games, Travis flew straight to our Rocky Mountain 300 ride in Steamboat Springs and spent a couple of days with us. Even with broken bones and that ugly shiner, he did the best he could and everyone there had a great time talking with him.
We were a little nervous moving our oldest dealer ride, the RM300, over to Steamboat Springs this year. But Colorado guys like Rob Stickler, Ron Tuchschmidt and a bunch of others jumped in and got everything setup for us in town and out on the trails. Our thanks to everyone who helped make this year’s event the success that it was.
Yes, it was a busy summer. But things won’t quiet down any time soon. Next up is the U.S. Open Supercross in Las Vegas, and then in December the 2004/2005 THQ World Supercross and AMA Supercross action starts back up.
     Let’s go racing!
