The unique diagnostic function of the OptiMate3 can automatically identify a deeply discharged battery and then bring it back to life by applying a controlled high voltage with small fixed current to it for a limited time.

attery manufacturers agree: To prevent sulfation, prolong life and enhance performance of sealed Maintenance-Free “MF” VRLA powersport batteries, keep them fully charged when not in use.
But what if your customer forgot to connect a charger and now the battery’s dead? Popular belief is to buy a new one…that is, unless they have an OptiMate3 desulfater-charger, which has the ability to bring “MF” VRLA powersport batteries back to life!
“MF” VRLA batteries can be recovered if done right and soon enough, as has been confirmed in the technical report “Service Manual For Sealed MF Battery” published by Yuasa Battery Co. Ltd. Japan. The report states that “When charging an over-discharged battery having terminal voltage of 11.5V or lower, its internal resistance may be too high to be charged at normal voltage. Therefore, raise the voltage initially (25V as max.) and charge. Adjust the voltage as often as possible to keep current at standard value.”
In other words, if left, a discharged MF VRLA powersport battery will start sulfating, quickly resulting in resistance to charging that a standard smart charger can’t overcome. But OptiMate3’s recovery program can—automatically and safely. Here’s how: It applies a high-voltage at controlled current to breathe life into the battery. Sensing recovery it shifts to a two step constant-current charge, then checks if the battery can hold power before switching to a safe long-term storage charge. And its safe. If OptiMate3 senses vehicle electronics, its charge voltage will not exceed 14.3V, good for day-to-day charging. If the battery’s dead flat, your customer will need to remove it from the vehicle to allow high-voltage recovery.
With most powersport vehicles now sporting “MF” batteries, it is no coincidence that OptiMate3 has been endorsed by manufacturers such as Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki and Triumph as well as more than half a million satisfied users worldwide.
