2004 Sportsters have taken the Harley-Davidson world by storm. Little
wonder. The “littlest Harley-Davidson” isn’t so little
anymore, and with new, free-flowing heads as part of the deal now the
1200 Sporty has been transformed into a regular street terror—even
more of one than any of those great XLs before it, going way back to
1957. With a rubber-mounted engine as part of the 2004 re-do the ride
is even civilized, and with the new Sportster’s extended wheelbase
and the new-look sheet metal if you squint just a little you’d
swear you were looking at a full-sized Dyna. Put all that together,
and offer it at a great price, and you can see why Sportsters are jumping
off the showroom floors.
SuperTrapp’s ready for them, too. Those new free-flowing cylinder
heads are about to get some help. SuperTrapp is set to release a brand-new
set of Mean Mothers drag pipes, this time designed and tuned just for
the Sportster. They’re making their way through the manufacturing
and distribution channels right now. The hot little Sportster is about
to get even hotter; Mean Mothers will see to that.
The Mean Mothers, of course are a SuperTrapp exclusive with Drag Specialties.
They’re already offered for Softails, Dynas and custom rigids.
They’re big, they’re booming and this year they’ve
been revised and re-configured with a half-dozen new styles to choose
from and a stepped-header design able to pump horsepower by as much
as 12-percent on a stock engine. With or without their baffles the
Mean Mothers are serious performers, and they look great. The ’Mothers
are tough customers, too. On the outside there’s a massive 2
1/2-inch heatshield for that huge look everyone wants, and deep inside
there’s a SuperTrapp dyno-proven step-header to speed up the
exhaust flow and enhance scavenging. That inside pipe steps up to a
big 2 1/4-inch diameter, too, not only helping performance but doing
wonders for the sound.

Along with their distinctive sound, these pipes can pump horsepower
by as much as 12 percent.
Along with everything else, SuperTrapp worked hard on the Mean
Mother tone. These bad boys rumble with a deep, ground-pounding
snarl. Mean Mothers are easier than ever to install, too. Along
with those new looks—the Shortys, Longs, Standards, Staggereds, Turndowns, Turnouts
and Slashes—SuperTrapp’s revamped the Mean Mothers’ mounting
system. There are lots fewer nuts and bolts involved now, and the Mean
Mothers heatshields come pre-installed with OEM fasteners. The baffles
are included and pre-installed, too, and yes, they’re removable.
SuperTrapp hasn’t missed a trick. The packaging’s even
been redesigned to make sure each set of pipes gets into a customer’s
hands looking as fresh, shiny and perfect as it did the day it left
the factory.
And all of that’s available for
the Sportster right now. The design work, prototyping and testing
is done, the manufacturing’s
started and the pipes are ready to ship to your dealership.

Even the mounting system's been changed up—with
fewer nuts and bolts.
While we’re talking Sportsters, don’t forget about those
other SuperTrapp XL pipes. There’s a great looking set of XR-style
exhausts already available, tough looking and tough sounding pipes
developed specifically for the AMA 883 Twins classes. These pipes look
like they came right off one of those legendary XR750s. They’re
stainless steel, and they’re awesome in both their tone and no-fooling
performance. In the right application, when a guy’s building
no-holds-barred street Sportster, for instance, these pipes are classics.
There’s nothing else like them. There’s a really sweet
2-into-1 SuperTrapp for the Sportster, too. Along with that traditional
2-into-1 tone and performance, this one’s available in
a couple finishes, as well, either Satin or Polished. Check them
out.
Sportsters, especially after the introduction of the 2004 versions,
are hotter and more popular than ever. SuperTrapp’s got them
all covered.
