he game’s changed again. As you know, Twin Cam 88®s use a non-adjustable crank position sensor, which means there’s no mechanical means for adjusting the ignition timing. Daytona Twin Tec’s original TC88 Ignition Module took care of that. A plug-in replacement for the OE module, the TC88 offered a myriad of adjustment possibilities, everything from initial timing adjustments to a variety of pre-programmed advance curves to a digitally set rev limiter to a selectable multi-spark mode. And working with Twin Tec’s optional software and PC link cable, advanced tuners could even program their own ignition curves to wake up a stock engine or tame the wildest big-bore/high-compression beast. But with the introduction of the 2004 models, Harley-Davidson changed the rules.
The new 2004-model Harley-Davidsons now have a completely different OE ignition module with a single 12-pin connector. The ignition module, instrument cluster, turn signal/security module (TSM/TSSM), and diagnostic scan tools are all linked together on an SAE J1850 data bus—same used on the V-Rod. Existing aftermarket ignition modules, including the original TC88, won’t work on 2004 and later Harley-Davidsons—not if you want to keep the instrument cluster, turn signals and security system operative.
Well, Daytona Twin Tec’s just-released TC88A Ignition Module (“A” for advanced model) solves that problem. It’s designed especially for the 2004 and later carbureted Big Twin models, and the 2003 and later Xls (J1850 technology was introduced on the Sportster last year). The TC88A comes with all the adjustment options of Twin Tec’s original replacement module, and packaged into the redesign are some new features, as well. There’s built-in data logging to store vehicle data for the last 30 minutes of operation; the optional PC link cable and software, besides allowing custom advance curves to be programmed, now accesses additional features like a speedometer/odometer recalibration function, handy for tire and gear changes; and the TC88A is completely compatible with existing Harley-Davidson® diagnostic scan tools.
So the game might have changed, but Daytona Twin Tec’s TC88A once again levels the playing field. All those ignition adjustments are right here, and so are some great new features. And you get to keep the instrument cluster and turn signals. The TC88A is in stock at Drag Specialties right now.

Adjusting ignition timing on the 2004-model Harley-Davidsons is now as simple as installing Daytona Twin Tec’s TC88A Ignition Module.

The TC88A offers all of the same adjustment options as the original, plus some new features, too.

This simple plug-in assembly also features built-in data logging to store vehicle data for up to 30 minutes of operation.

The module is even compatible with existing Harley-Davidson diagnostic scan tools.
