sled tuners know that the route to outstanding performance runs through
the driven clutch. That’s because the driven is the brains of the
power transmission system. Whether it is selecting the right ratio for
rapidly changing conditions, or simply putting the power on the ground
as efficiently as possible, the driven clutch is the conductor of the
power train.Half-a-dozen years ago, TEAM Industries introduced a new concept in driven clutches. Called the Rapid Reaction® TSS-98 secondary clutch, this revolutionary idea separated the self-alignment function of the driven from the actuation function. This separation eliminated the internal binding and wear inherent in earlier designs. It also allowed the clutch to be built to tighter tolerances than previous types. The clean, smooth action of this encapsulated roller design provided improved power delivery, quicker backshifting, and longer belt life than conventional secondaries. The Rapid Reaction clutch gained OEM status on an ever-increasing number of Polaris and Blade models, and on Arctic Cat and Ski-Doo factory race sleds, and became an aftermarket speed secret for late-model snowmobiles of all brands. TEAM now introduces their newest driven clutch, the lightweight Rapid Reaction® TSS-04 secondary. With a weight reduction of more than a pound compared to the original clutch, the new model features a new rib design to improve cooling and reduce wind drag. This also reduces drive belt temperatures for longer belt life. The new helix requires only four fasteners, and redesigned bushings further improve durability. Ultimately the new clutch increases power transfer efficiency to the track when compared to the original model. The new lightweight model retains all the outstanding features of the original Rapid Reaction secondary including the unique Twin Trax® helix for easy tuning and the L-shaped Belt Removal Tool for easy opening. Internal components (helixes and springs) are available in specific application kits and on an individual basis. A TEAM spring change tool is also available, and highly recommended for serious tuners. The lightweight Rapid Reaction TSS-04 secondary is currently available for Polaris splined and keyed jackshaft models, and for Arctic Cat and Ski-Doo splined jackshaft applications.
