The lightweight, compact IDS2 four-stroke silencer measures just 3 1/2-inches in diameter.

TV riders aren’t just one thing. Most guys—and girls and families—might have only one or two machines but they want them to do everything. One weekend it might be high-speed running and maybe even a little racing, the next weekend could be a laid-back and leisurely trail ride. And the weekend following that those same ATVs might get pressed into utility duty, hauling supplies in and out of a hunting or fishing camp. That’s a pretty wide ranging list of activities there, so how do you set up those ATVs with the right performance exhaust for all that? Silencers optimized for that weekend calling for top-end power are going to fall on their face next time out when that same machine’s asked to provide the sort of low-end grunt a trail ride requires, and what do you do to control the sound level, dropping it down low enough to be acceptable for that utility/sport/hunting-fishing-camping weekend? To satisfy all of those needs for one ATV could take three, maybe even four different silencers, each one installed and removed as needed. That’s an expensive, time-consuming, and not particularly efficient answer.

SuperTrapp’s IDS2 is the perfect answer to just about every off-roader needs—thanks to their adjustability and easily interchangeable discs.

Here’s a better one: The SuperTrapp IDS2 or IDSX. These are the ATV silencers that can do it all, and do it well. The multi-adjustable IDS2 is SuperTrapp’s always-right answer to just about every off-roader’s needs, and the IDSX gets it done for the more specialized big-bore utility quads. The secret to both of these silencer’s broad-range application is their adjustability—both feature the SuperTrapp exclusive tuning-disc technology, easily interchangeable discs that allow the IDS2 and IDSX to quickly switch character, adapting to any application. Add a couple discs and the silencers “open up” for the kind of free-flowing top-end power perfect for that weekend of high-speed running, removing a few discs closes things down and sets up the exhaust for low-end torque, perfect for all that recreational and utility work. It’s that simple, and the discs are added or removed just about as fast as it takes to talk about it. And best of all it’s just one silencer, and one purchase, that’s doing it all. As a rule of thumb, installing about six discs will be perfect for that utility/recreational setting, and a full pack of 18 discs opens things up wide for the kind of exhaust flow an all-out racer demands. The IDS2 and IDSX are the most versatile silencers you’ll find for a four-stroke ATV.

A new “pre-baffle” mounted ahead of the tuning-disc pack punches up low-end torque and pulling power.

The IDS2 is a very light and compact four-stroke silencer. It measures just 3 1/2-inches in diameter, and its aluminum shell will tuck in tight where other systems won’t. There’s a smooth, rounded end cap with a big 2-inch opening to enhance flow, and this SuperTrapp silencer is a USFS-approved spark arrestor, to boot. On top of all that there’s a choice of interchangeable Race- or Quiet Core inserts, both dyno-tested for maximum performance and both featuring SuperTrapp’s high-tech Pillow Pack silencing material. The Quiet Core even has a free-flow baffle for increased performance without the noise. And inside, protected by the end-cap from all the mud, dirt and debris that quickly clogs some other systems, there are all those diffuser discs, the key to SuperTrapp adjustability and the feature making this silencer so perfect for so many applications.
And for the really big-bore machines, those utility quads so popular right now, the SuperTrapp IDSX takes off from there. This silencer was designed specifically for these workhorse machines and it puts serious power where it’s seriously needed. SuperTrapp went to a huge, 4 1/2-inch stainless steel body for the IDSX, and inside there’s a new-design “pre-baffle” mounted ahead of the tuning-disc pack to help produce a powerband emphasizing low-end torque and pulling power. And as big as it is the IDSX is almost whisper quiet. The sound level is near stock.
The IDS2 and IDSX are available for all the machines that need them. There are bolt-on applications covering ATVs right up to the newest 2004 models. Finding the right silencer, in the proper fitment, isn’t going to be a problem. Both silencers come with a full assortment of those diffuser discs as standard equipment, too, so there’s nothing extra to buy. Bottom line: there’s only one thing to buy—either the SuperTrapp IDS2 or IDSX, the one silencer that does it all. They’re both always in stock at Parts Unlimited.
