It’s finally here. Or so the calendar says. Weather is still trying to make up its mind in the Northeast and the Midwest, but the rest of the country seems to be at full roar.
      What does summer bring? Well, it brings the end of the Supercross series, for one. For us, it brought two National Championships. Parts Unlimited/Thor-backed riders Chad Reed and Ivan Tedesco each dominated their classes and wrapped up an AMA Championship. More importantly, though, we were able to entertain over 4,000 dealer personnel at our Supercross Showcase and Hospitality events.
     What else does summer bring? It brings the bulk of the activities in the powersports business. The AMA National Outdoors series kicks off at Hangtown. We are not even halfway through the AMA Superbike series. The AMA National Dirt Track series is in full swing and some of the biggest attended AHDRA National Drag Races are yet to come. This doesn’t include the assorted rallies and dealer open houses.
     So what does that mean to you? It means enthusiasts and it means sales. Race fans are some of the most passionate participants in the powersports business. They eat, live and sleep racing, and they support their habit with the almighty dollar. There is no better feeling than leaving a race event revved up and wanting to ride. And, you want to emulate your hero (who hopefully won that day) by wearing what they wear, or running the aftermarket products they run. And where do these fans go to get these items? Their local dealer.
     We want to share this enthusiasm with you. At most of the events mentioned above, Parts Unlimited or Drag Specialties personnel and big rigs are there supporting the series. We usually have a Showcase or Hospitality event tied into these events. All of our valued dealers are invited out to join us and have something to eat and drink, check out the latest aftermarket products, get some autographs, enjoy the races and get inspired about the business that we are all in. Sometimes we all get way too busy and forget that we got into this business because we love the sport. We get too caught up in the business and forget about the fun and excitement. Get out there and get motivated yourself. You will find that your excitement will be reflected in your own store’s sales.
