ual-sport riders, especially the ones who spend more time on the road than off, are going to want to know about this one. It’s brand-new, it’s from Dunlop, and it’s a tire bringing a whole new level of street performance to the dual-sport market. The D607—just introduced—is going to be tough to overlook. Aimed at the most popular big-displacement dual-sport adventure machines, Dunlop designed this tire to ride, handle and grip like no other dual-sport tire before it. Wet or dry, and especially on the street, the D607’s bound to set a new standard for the class.
Just as the D606 did it all off-road, the new D607 will make street-oriented dual-sport guys really happy. With its improved grip, legendary Dunlop handling, and increased mileage when compared to conventional dual-sport tires, there’s a lot to like about this new tire, and plenty to recommend it. Starting with the construction. The D607 fronts, offered in two aspect ratios, actually use two different carcasses: The 90-series tires employ conventional Dunlop cross-ply technology, the low-profile 80-series tires have Dunlop’s Aramid breaker tread reinforcement and radial-casing technology, both derived from racing. The result is a crisp and light steering response and sure-footed cornering. Both styles of fronts, the 90-series and the 80-series models, use the latest materials and technologies in their manufacture, too. And it’s just as impressive for the rears. The D607 rear tire combines Jointless Band (JLB) construction with Dunlop’s Carcass Tension Control System (CTCS) for enhanced cornering performance and great wear characteristics. Front and rear, this is a combination that’ll deliver excellent high-speed stability.
The D607s come with Dunlop’s single-radius concept, as well, a tire design first introduced on the D208ZR. This single-radius profile minimizes changes to the contact patch area at different lean angles, and once again the overall “feel” from the saddle is greatly improved. So is the steering response. It’s more progressive. The D607s have a new tread pattern, too, a pattern featuring wide, stable, central blocks with large lateral grooves to really evacuate water. Smaller longitudinal grooves optimize block stiffness and increase wear resistance. It all adds up to great handling wet or dry, great road manners and fantastic mileage.
The D607, which replaces the D604, is available in all the right sizes. All those sizes are in the warehouse, too, so there’s no problem getting these new Dunlops right now. The tires started shipping late last year. Big dual-sport bikes, machines like the BMW GS models, the Triumph Tigers, and the Suzuki DR650 never had it so good—not on the street.
