always comes down to the look, doesn’t it? Sure, motocross riders
care about the construction of their new helmet, they care about it
a lot. After all, a helmet is all about safety. Riders shop for features,
too. Things like a good, adjustable, all-day-comfortable fit, good ventilation,
a removable/washable liner and a visor that doesn’t catch the
wind and try to rip that new helmet right off their head. A motocross
helmet better have a big eyeport, too, big enough to not get in the
way of the goggles. But even when a helmet has all of that, and maybe
more, if the graphics aren’t big and bold and splashy, chances
are that helmet is going to get a pass.
No motocrosser will ever have to settle for “blah” with
the 2004 AGV lineup. These helmets are all eye-popping beauties. The
colors and the graphics are stunning. With almost 20 different bright
and bold designs to choose from AGV helmets look great. They have a
world-class style, too, born in Italy. Blah doesn’t enter the
equation. And all those safety and comfort features are here, too, and
so is a great price. AGV’s off-road helmets start out at less
then a hundred bucks retail, and the top-of-the-line model, the AX-7,
sells for under $260. With looks, safety, features, comfort—and
a price tag like that—no AGV helmet will stay on the shelf for
long.
The style speaks for itself (just look at these helmets!), so let’s
run down some of the features, starting with that AX-7. To begin with,
this helmet is available in two different shell sizes. They’re
both manufactured using a weave of carbon-fiber and Kevlar. It’s
the result of AGV’s continuous research and development of the
newest composite materials, and these helmet shells deliver maximum
impact resistance, shock absorption and elasticity. They’re also
light as a feather. AGV’s advanced composites result in a dramatic
weight reduction. But why those two shell sizes? For a perfect fit on
every head. Removable (and washable) cheek pads and liners are available
in a variety of sizes and thickness, letting you correctly size a helmet
every time, and do it right in the store. Those pads and liners are
made with a unique “Cool Max” fiber for the ultimate in
comfort, and with AGV’s “Hygienic Treatment” the inside
of the helmet stays fresh and clean. And there’s plenty of airflow.
The AX-7 vents through a pair of air channels integrated into the shell,
with two Dynamic Extractors at the rear. There’s an adjustable
three-screw peak on this helmet, and a comfortable Double D-Ring strap
keeps it on tight. The AX-7 is both Snell M2000- and DOT-certified and
it’s available in sizes small through XX-large.
The AX-6, retailing for $174.95, has a lot of all that going for it,
too. This one comes in six different color combinations, and there are
two shell sizes here, as well, both constructed with those tough AGV
Advanced Composite Fibers and featuring those removable and washable
cheek pads and liner. The AX-6 is a comfortable lightweight, too, and
there’s a Dynamic Ventilation System with front airflows and rear
exhaust vents. The air channels are embedded right in the shell. Snell
M2000- and DOT-certified, the AX-6 is available in every size, small
through XX-large.
Racers on a budget won’t have to miss out on AGV style, either.
In fact, the RC-5—at $119.95 retail—just might be the best
selling helmet in the lineup, budget price or not. This helmet is a
great deal, period. Manufactured with HIR-TH Thermoplastic Resin, the
RC-5 is durable in the extreme. It’s both DOT- and Snell M2000-certified.
The RC-5 features a fully adjustable and painted three-screw peak. The
ventilation system consists of two front vents and two dynamic rear-air
extractors; the interior includes removable and washable cheek pads
and liner for a perfect fit, and there’s that soft AGV “Hygienic
Treated” anti-sweat fabric. With all of this for less than $120
it’s no wonder the RC-5 is as popular as it is.
AGV’s RC-4, at an affordable $94.95 retail, rounds out the 2004
off-road lineup, and don’t let that low price fool you. The RC-4,
with a DOT-certified HIR-TH Thermoplastic Resin shell just like the
RC-5, is plenty of helmet. Along with that unmistakable AGV style, the
RC-4 comes loaded with a great Dynamic Ventilation System with front
vents, and that all-ride-dry comfortable “Hygienic Treated”
liner is in here, too. There are four hot color combinations offered,
all beautifully applied with a long-lasting and durable finish AGV developed
in F1, and it sells for under $100.
All the AGV helmets, from the AX-7 to the RC-4, are in the Parts Unlimited
warehouse right now. In all of the colors. There’s a full supply
of those removable cheek pads and liners, too, in various sizes and
thickness. Check with your rep for a recommendation on the models, sizes,
and colors to stock—and don’t plan on any of them staying
on the shelf for long. When motocross riders helmet-shop it always comes
down to the look, and AGV’s got it in spades.

A best-seller, the RC-5 offers durability, comfort and style and is
both DOT- and Snell M2000-certified.

Selling for under $100, the RC-4 is a DOT-certified helmet that is packed
with features.
