hoosing pipes can be tough, especially when you're searching for the ones that'll make the biggest impact. Sure, at the top of every wish list is a set of exhausts like a master builder might make up for a one-off. Pipes that a guy like Paul Yaffe might build. Good luck finding them, though, unless money is no object. In the real world, custom pipes are going to come from the aftermarket, not the pro shop. That's a fact, that's the way it is.
Only it's not a fact, and it most definitely doesn’t have to be the way it is. Not with SuperTrapp's "Road Legends" in the warehouse. True custom pipes ready and waiting, the Road Legends are the real deal. master builder-designed, they're produced by the aftermarket and priced accordingly. With Paul Yaffe at the drawing board and SuperTrapp on the shop floor it's the best of both worlds, a dream combination of style and a great price. That Yaffe/SuperTrapp connection is unique in the industry. It's a growing collaboration, too. The prototype for the latest addition to the lineup, a 2-into-1 that only Paul Yaffe could think up, was center stage in the SuperTrapp display at this year's Indy Expo. Those soon-to-be-production pipes will be available a little later this year.

FLH/FLTs now can mount a set of Mean Mothers that reach all the way to the back of the bag.

The rest of that Road Legends lineup is available right now, however, and the Crack Pipe and X-Pipe, either chrome-plated or in black ceramic, are serious pro-style exhausts. These pipes are as cool as they come. Two nasty looking systems, they're exactly the sort of pipes you'd see if you walked into Yaffe's shop. And Drag Specialties has them stocked-up and ready to sell, with applications for ’86 and newer Softails and most rigid-frame specials.
The Crack Pipe is a beauty, too. It's a highly stylized, short and sweet upswept drag pipe. Pure Yaffe. It's two-inches straight through and has stylized claw end tips and three-piece spot heatshields. Yaffe, and plenty of other name builders, regularly use this off-the-shelf exhaust. The X-Pipe is a winner, too. A classic over-and-under shotgun, its traditional styling with the Yaffe touch. Delivered complete with ventilated spot heatshields and chrome billet end tips, it has become a builder's inspiration, too. You may have seen them on a recent episode of “American Choppers” (the POW-MIA project bike). SuperTrapp just announced a black ceramic version of this pipe (with a silver ceramic version and optional billet end tips on the horizon), and as great looking as that is all by itself savvy builders are already seeing what else they can do with color on this pipe. Coated in the same tones as the frame and the tin, and highlighted with those chromed see-through heatshields, the pipes scream custom. There are X-Pipe applications for ’90 and later Softails and most Softail-style customs, and everything sells for just a fraction of what you'd have to pay Paul Yaffe directly.
And SuperTrapp's not finished. The Mean Mothers, drag pipes exclusive to Drag Specialties, have been revised and re-designed. With that same big look and booming sound they've always had—with or without their baffles—the Mean Mothers are serious performance pipes now. They have a stepped-header design, able to pump up horsepower by as much as 12-percent on a stock engine, and the bigger the engine gets the bigger that gain. Mean Mothers are easier to install now, too. There's a revamped mounting system with fewer nuts and bolts. Mean Mothers heatshields now come pre-installed with OEM fasteners, baffles are included and pre-installed (yet removable), and there are a lot more applications for all the styles. SuperTrapp's even overhauled the packaging to protect the pipes during shipping.
Choosing the right pipes? Nothing to it. For pure custom style, pure power, and an awesome sound quality, you can count on SuperTrapp, and Drag Specialties has it all stocked to sell.
