or 2004 it’s Tri-Ovals across the line, and every four-stroke motocross rider’s going to love it. Yoshimura’s Tri-Oval silencers and full systems are definitely the hot players in four-stroke motocrossing, and have been for a while. Team Moto Triple-X sure demonstrated what these pipes can do, and will again this season with Kyle Lewis, Larry Ward, Damon Huffman and Tim Windel all using those Yoshimura systems on their Honda CRF450s and 250s. That full-titanium Pro Series Tri-Oval, with the optional carbon fiber silencer, gets the job done. It’s a winner.

And now that Pro Series look, sound, and most importantly performance is available to everyone, at any budget. This year the Yoshimura Comp Series systems, those stainless steel exhausts traditionally aimed at the budget-minded rider and tuned for low-end grunt, come with the same Tri-Oval muffler design and end cap as used on the Pro Series pipes. Still positioned as the affordable alternative—the price hasn’t changed—this year the Yoshimura Comp Series systems have the same pipe tapers as the Pro Series systems, too. The result? The performance of both systems, Pro and Comp, titanium and stainless steel, is equal. Low-end, mid-range, and top-end—it’s all there. Of course, made from heavier stainless steel instead of titanium (8 lbs. total vs. approximately 4 lbs. for the Pro Series titanium), the new Comp Series systems give away a little something. But not much, and priced hundreds less they’re sure to be a budget racer’s favorite.

Yoshimura’s Pro and Comp systems, whether titanium or stainless steel, offer great performance.

This season both of those Tri-Oval Yoshimuras get new end-caps, too. The T.R.C. is a tri-oval end cap Yoshimura’s just developed, similar in appearance to those trick-looking European designs that are out there, and this year it’s standard. All the Yoshimura full systems will have it, Pro Series and Comp. The re-designed T.R.C. end cap really controls bottom-end throttle response, and coming with all the familiar Yoshimura T.E.C. style cap-inserts it keeps a lid on the sound, too. More and more states are mandating a 96 decibel level, and the Yoshimuras with the T.R.C. system can meet it, no problem.

Team Moto Triple-X rider Larry Ward shows off what Yoshimura’s Pro Series Tri-Oval system can do for a four-stroke machine.

Of course the familiar Yoshimura oval silencer is still available, this year offered as a slip-on for guys not wanting to go the full-system route. A great, low-cost way towards Yoshimura performance, the oval silencer comes with the tried and proven T.E.C. end cap. And talking about mufflers, don’t forget about that top-of-the-line carbon fiber silencer, the same one Team Moto Triple-X runs. Couple it up with those lightweight titanium Pro Series pipes and you’re looking at some serious pro-level four-stroke exhaust.

Yoshimura’s stainless steel systems offer low-end, mid-range and top-end performance in a slightly heavier system that is sure to be a budget racer’s favorite.

All the Tri-Ovals—titanium Pro Series and the new stainless-steel Comp—are available across the board. There are full systems for all the four-stroke players, the Yamaha YZ250 and 450F, the Honda CRF250s and 450s, and the RMZ and KXF 250s from Suzuki and Kawasaki. It’s all here, or more correctly, it’s all in the Parts Unlimited warehouses. Check with your rep for details and delivery dates.
