t’s easy today to hear the name Cobra Engineering and think cruiser accessories and exhausts. But what many people may not know is the company began making exhaust pipes for ATVs more than 25 years ago. In fact, you could say the ATV parts were really the beginning of the company. And with all Cobra’s changes, growth, expansion and otherwise typical business challenges, its ATV business has remained an integral part of the company’s product offering. Now for 2004, Cobra is launching an entirely new ATV product line, one that co-founders Tim McCool and Ken Boyko believe will transform the ATV aftermarket business in the same way their metric cruiser products have changed the custom cruiser market.

With smooth radius bends and corners, the Cobra chassis skid plate presents a smooth seamless appearance.

Superb mounting details make for easy Nerf Bar installation. High-quality alloy materials give the bars great strength with light weight.

All Cobra products start from the same simple design principles: build the highest quality products at the best available prices, and make them easy for the customer to install and maintain. Sounds easy doesn’t it? Well, like many things, it’s a lot easier to say than do. And when it came to designing and building an entirely new line of ATV parts, the challenge was as high as ever.

The A-Arm guards fold around the leading A-Arm edge for that extra bit of protection.

The heavy-duty swingarm skid plate shields the stock swingarm from rocks, stumps or other trail nasties.

“We’ve been making ATV parts for 25 years, and we felt it was time to turn things up a notch or two,” said Cobra Engineering President Tim McCool. “We surveyed the landscape and discovered an opportunity to build higher quality ATV products that set new standards for the consumers. The challenge was to be able to make them price competitive, as well. ”

The new products, as it turns out, are exceptional, real-world, proof of concepts. From bumper to grab rail, skid plates to A-Arm guards, every Cobra item aims to be declared best in class. All are made in the U.S.A. from premium quality aluminum alloys, with beautiful welds and durable finishes. All of the metric mounting hardware is zinc-plated and Loctite-patched for reliability and security, and this hardware matches OEM supplied materials. So, too, do all the supplied flange bolts.
While the parts can be installed together, forming a unified system, each product also stands on its own. Cobra’s new products fall into the most popular categories: front bumpers, A-Arm guards, chassis skid plates, swing-arm skid plate, linkage protectors, Nerf bars, grab rails, and a fuel-cel guard.

The Cobra ATV bumper breaks new ground in quality and functionality. It has show-quality Heliarc welds, and is ball-burnished with a clear-coated finish for great looks and easy maintenance. Functionally, it offers superior protection with distinctive lightweight tube construction that uses coped tubing (fishmouth) joints for additional strength, durability and a first-class fit. Its innovative integrated bumper skid plate merges with the Cobra chassis skid plate. And it installs quickly and easily, using the stock bumper mounts.

The stunning Cobra bumper has a built-in skid plate that integrates with the chassis skid plate.

Like the front bumper, the new Nerf Bars use premium aluminum tubing with show-quality welds, along with the ball-burnished and clear-coated finish for great looks and easy maintenance. The Cobra powder-coated Nerf Bar front mounting bracket neatly attaches to the stock frame. The Nerf Bars bolt to that frame up front using Allen bolts with nyloc nuts for secure, non-loosening fit, and to the stock foot peg mounts in the rear. That means no u-bolt mounting hardware that can damage the frame or skid plates. Finally the Nerf Bars feature easy-to-adjust nylon webbing with innovative web mounting attachments.

Cobra offers products for the entire underside of the chassis from chassis skid plates to A-Arm guards to swing arm skid plates.

For underneath protection Cobra has created an integrated system of parts that can be used together or just as easily with OEM or other aftermarket parts. The A-Arm guards, chassis skid plate and the swingarm skid plate (as well as the rear linkage protector on some models) all set a new standard for style and functionality. The A-Arms and chassis skid plate each offer seamless, full-length protection with smooth radiused bends, radiused edges and corners. The A-Arm guards also wrap around front of A-Arms for additional protection.

Each of the four under-carriage items also shares a high level of design functionality. They all are simple to install offering slotted holes for easy adjustability. High strength extruded aluminum clamps assure positive attachment without frame damage. Perhaps best of all they have recessed mounting holes that submerge and protect the otherwise exposed bolt heads from impact. Strategically located and designed drain holes release any collected water, mud and debris.

Wherever a bolt head would be exposed to damage Cobra has recessed them for out-of-the-way protection.

The swing-arm skid plates have some additional features that place them a cut above the competition. Take the chain strip for example. Cobra uses an Ultra High Molecular Weight (UHMW) chain strip attached with stainless screws. Big deal, right? You bet. With the stainless steel screws, you should be able to replace that strip easily and cost effectively.

These aluminum Cobra parts signal the first wave of new ATV products from Cobra, and there is much more to come in the near future. Contact your Parts rep for more information and availability.
